Ole South Roofing & Construction

A straight comparison

Metal versus shingle, without a fake price

Architectural shingles typically last 25–30 years. Metal, standing seam or metal shingles, typically lasts 40–60 years. We install both. We will not tell you which is cheaper until we have seen the roof.

What we can say from the work

People ask which one “pays for itself.” We don’t publish a payback year, an energy-savings percent, or a noise claim, because those are not facts we have put our name on. If you want the longer typical life and the look of metal, say so and we will price that roof. If you want architectural shingles, we price those. Both estimates follow a visit.

Questions

Which lasts longer, metal or shingles?
Metal typically runs 40–60 years. Architectural shingles typically run 25–30 years.
Which is cheaper?
We do not publish a price difference. The written estimate after we see the house is the comparison.
Do you install both?
Yes. Standing seam, metal shingles, and architectural shingles.
Will wind ratings decide it?
A 130-mph wind-rated architectural shingle is the practical Midlands option we discuss. It is not the only thing that decides the roof. We still have to see the house.
Is the 40-year figure a warranty?
No. It is a typical lifespan. We do not publish a warranty length on this site.
